Relson Gracie’s name will tell prospective students that you are serious enough about your grappling program and your students to partner with the best and teach the most technical Jiu-Jitsu in the world. The character of our instructors are one of the most important qualities that we look for, but equally as important is your loyalty to me and high standards that you impart on your students. I have trusted my Jiu-Jitsu with my students when I started with a handful of students studying Gracie Jiu-Jitsu from my garage in Hawaii and have turned it into one of the most successful Jiu-Jitsu Associations in the World.
All of our associated schools benefit from:
- Personal instruction from Relson Gracie, 2nd oldest son Helio Gracie, creator of Gracie/Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Relson Gracie regularly visits to personally to hold seminars at your academy. Relson travels almost 50% of the year visiting his associations to make sure that they do not get "watered down" Jiu-Jitsu and are allowed to learn it directly from the source.
- Relson believes in and teaches Jiu-Jitsu under the strict standards of his father Helio Gracie. He believes strongly in the teaching of all aspects of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu; sport Jiu-Jitsu, submission grappling, and specifically the self defense aspect, which is the most overlooked aspect of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu. Most black belts don't even know half of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu's self defense techniques.
- Learn a Street effective style of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu that Relson Gracie has developed on the mean streets of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil where he is just as well known as he is as a 22 year undefeated champion on the mats. Sport Jiu-Jitsu is a great way to learn and practice Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but Relson teaches a Street oriented style for which his father, Grandmaster Helio Gracie created the family’s Jiu-Jitsu.
- Maintains a strict standard for promotions. Relson does not believe in passing out belts to gain students or win loyalty amongst students like many other large associations are doing now. There are no shortcuts, being proficient at Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu takes hard work and discipline. Any organization promising belt promotions to join are not only selling their students short and not properly training them at the most important aspect; to be able to defend themselves and teach their students the same if the need ever arises. Earn a belt directly from one of the original Gracie Brothers. Relson Gracie does not give belts away, he maintains the strictest of standards and does not accept anything but the best from his students. Relson demands loyalty from his students and leads by example.
- Join a team of over 40 schools taught by over 26 black belts, who have trained directly under Relson Gracie for over 10 years. Our black belts trained under and were produced by Relson Gracie. We encourage you to ask other ranking instructors how long they have trained directly under a legitimate and credentialed instructor, let alone under one of the Gracie Brothers. The Relson Gracie team is not about quantity, but quality. Not everyone is accepted onto our team. We want to uphold the highest standards and are not going to compromise our standards for the almighty dollar. The vast majority of the team has been with Relson for well over 10 years, many approaching 20 years, which means that we have very experienced instructors across the country to provide support and a diverse network of knowledgeable people that treat each other like family. We don't just say that we are a family, everyone has been with Relson this long because we are close friends and help support the team.
- Instructor training and mentorship directly under Relson Gracie or one of his master instructors to increase your ability to disseminate all the technical details of Relson Gracie Jiu-Jitsu to your students and improve your own knowledge and understanding of the techniques.
- Very reasonable association dues. Relson does not believe in subjecting his schools to any undue financial burdens. It is difficult enough to run a profitable school. Many larger associations make it almost impossible to stay in business with large association dues and other financial requirements and just collect the dues until you go out of business and then move on to the next school. The Relson Gracie Team wants every school to be successful and you to be part of the team forever.
- No over burdening rules and regulations that will limit the way you can run your school. Some organizations provide strict requirements and rules to be placed on schools and charge exorbitant fees. Relson believes that his primary job is to pass on the most technical Jiu-Jitsu as taught to him by Helio Gracie and further developed by himself to his instructors and to give them the freedom to run their school the way they feel is best. Different parts of the country have different demographics and cultural practices. The Relson Gracie team is very close to their students and runs its classes unlike traditional martial arts, which most of our students believe is like a breath of fresh air. We want to keep it that way so our students feel close enough to their instructor to feel comfortable asking questions to facilitate their learning.
